100th blog post…Congrats! Look at you go. The new blog looks great. So my favorite oreo recipe has to be homemade mint oreo ice cream. Mmmmm.

Welcome to my 100th blog post! It is time to par-tay!!

To celebrate, I’ve changed up the look of my blog. Isn’t it awesome? I’m in love! Many thanks to Clairice over at NiftySwank for the amazing design. (You really need to check out her stuff. She is one of those people who everything they touch turns to beautiful.)

And what’s a party without the food? If these cookies aren’t making you drool then I don’t know what will. I was having a huge Oreo craving the other day, but all the treats that sounded good would have taken too long to make (it was of course late at night). I finally decided to skip the actual Oreos and make homemade ones instead, since those are super quick. And then I had the best idea ever.

Homemade Oreos taste fabulous and I have no complaints, besides the fact that they don’t really taste anything like Oreos. Just a dark chocolate cookie with cream cheese frosting. They lack that special Oreo flavor. (I think that flavor might be heroin.) And hello, Oreo filling tastes nothing like cream cheese. So I decided to chop Oreos and mix them with the cookie batter….as well as the frosting. YES!!

If these look like they are about to fall over, that’s because they were definitely about to fall over.

Don’t these look divine? They really are. It’s like a cookie sandwich with cookies n’ cream filling. And the best part? They are done in a half hour. Perfect for late night cravings.

And last but lost least, parties would be lame without presents. The fact that you read this blog makes writing it way more fun, so thanks for hanging out with me, virtually. I’ve had some good times and I hope you have too. To thank you for being your awesome self, I’m doing my first giveaway today!!

I’ve gushed about my Microplane Grater before, and now you might get to experience this awesomeness yourself. It is great for zesting citrus, grating hard cheese like Parmesan, and slicing off little bits of your skin. (That’s only if you’re not careful. I’m telling you this thing is sharp.) I will be giving away a Microplane Grater to one of you foodie-kindred-spirits.

All you have to do to enter the giveaway is leave a comment telling me what your favorite Oreo dessert is. The giveaway is open until Friday, June 22, 2012, at 5pm MST. Only one comment per person please. If you are not asked to give your email as a requirement for leaving a comment, be sure to include it in the text of your comment so that I can contact you if you win. US entrants only. The winner will be selected by random.org.

Good luck everyone! Thanks for making my blog so much fun!

Homemade Oreos Cookies…with Oreos

Source: This recipe is everywhere. I’m pretty sure Eve made it up.

For the cookies:

1 box devil’s food cake mix
2 eggs
1/3 cup oil
4-5 Oreos, coarsely chopped

For the frosting:

4 ounces cream cheese (I use neufchatel), softened
4 tablespoons (half stick) butter, softened
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
4-5 Oreos, coarsely chopped

Preheat oven to 350. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper or a silpat. Beat together the cake mix, eggs, and oil. The batter will be stiff. Fold in 4 or 5 chopped Oreos. Roll the dough (I did rounded teaspoons) into balls and place on cookie sheets. Press them down so they are a little flattened. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Allow to set up on the pan for a couple minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool.

While the cookies are baking, beat together the cream cheese and butter. Add in the powdered sugar and vanilla. Beat until smooth, then fold in 4 or 5 chopped Oreos.

To assemble, spread about a tablespoon of frosting on half the cookies, then top with the remaining cookies. Store in a sealed container in the fridge. Unless you are planning on eating all of them right away. Don’t worry. No one is judging you.

Makes about a dozen sandwiches.

  1. Woo hoo!! Way to go with the 100th post…and a giveaway? Look at you, you professional! :)

Ok, so…favorite Oreo dessert…Emily made this AMAZING No Bake Nutella Cheesecake, and the crust is crushed Oreo’s… I can’t even explain how divine it was. She said she found it on Pinterest? You gotta check it out. Definitely my favorite dessert that has Oreo’s.

Keeping my fingers crossed for the win! :)

  2. This is so fun! If I have to choose a favorite Oreo dessert I’d have to say cookies and cream ice cream. In fact when I saw your oreo cookies I thought that was what was your cream filling was…and that, too, would be amazing! In fact someday I’ll try that! :)
And your blog does look great! I like it, and of course my opinion counts! ;)

  3. it’s funny, i’m not that fond of oreo’s by themselves. but crushed in mint-flavored frozen yogurt? so awesome! i second the crust idea for cheesecake; also i’ve put an oreo in the bottom of a cupcake liner and then added cake batter – pretty tasty :)

as i contemplate your 100th post, it occurs to me that my recent acquisition of a few pounds completely corresponds to when you started your blog….coincidence? probably. but i’ve sure made a lot of these recipes – like anne said, it’s like i’ve rediscoverd cooking!

p.s. i almost forgot mixing oreos with cream cheese, rolling them in little balls, and dipping them in chocolate to make truffles!

  4. Love the new Blog design – but what wouldn’t I? Clairice’s touch is magic on anything she does! I believe I made an Oreo White chocolate fudge one year for Christmas. Extremely rich and very delicious!

  5. Delicious Karen! I always love drooling over your food. :)

I had a delicious homemade ice cream cake with an oreo crust yesterday. May be my new favorite oreo dessert!

  6. Karen,

These look delicious, like all your desserts, and other food. I love your new website. I love your food. I have a greater appreciation for…eating, as if that’s possible!

  7. These look really good. Before I went gluten and dairy free I loved oreo cookie pie. Here is the recipe
One package of original oreo, half blended fine, half corse crushed
one large package of chocolate and oreo pudding
    one tub of whipping cream
Place half of the oreos in food processor blend until fine.
Pour in to 9×13 pan press everything firmly.
Mix each of the pudding to the pie recipes on the box add 1/3 of the the course crushed oreos into each pudding mix.
Place the pudding one on top of the other in the pan.
Top with wipping cream and the last of the oreos on top.
Place in freezer for 1 hour or in fridge for 2 hours to chill.

You can add whipping cream to the pudding if you would like. I have had it both ways we just liked it better this way.

  8. Usually I am not an oreo-eater. But I would eat these (since, as you point out, homemade oreos really have little resemblance to packaged oreos). I also like when oreos are crushed and made into a pie crust, like for cheesecake or for frozen peanut butter pie. They just seem more like an ingredient to me than a food!

  9. I am lusting after that grater so much, I have to leave a comment! My favorite Oreo treat (for now; I haven’t tried these cookies yet) is regular Oreos with a smear of peanut butter and dipped in chocolate. I’ve also enjoyed them with just a dip into the peanut butter jar. Yeah, I’m weird, I know.

    1. Oh, I take that back. I use Oreos in the crust of my white chocolate raspberry cheesecake with Oreo crust, and a dark chocolate drizzle. But I haven’t made that a cheesecake in years. Having a “helpful” four year-old will do that (Or an 18 month old, as he was when he first decided to be “helpful”).

  10. I prefer cookie floats–that’s a glass filled to the brim with oreos, covered in milk, then crushed with a spoon and eaten.

  11. Ummm, I want to win a batch of those cookies. Homemade Oreos are one of my favorite things ever. Otherwise I prefer my Oreos in a shake. Mmm! So good. With hot fudge on top….
