Eric and I celebrated our 6 year anniversary last weekend. Woohoo! Here’s to another 60 years of lying in bed together while looking at our phones.

Raspberry Nocciolata Grilled Sandwich No really, as far as romancing goes, Eric’s pretty awesome. He is the one who’s always setting up date nights for us. He brings home fresh flowers regularly because he knows how much I love them. And he is a diligent dish washer, which is a pretty valuable asset when you are married to a food blogger.

Raspberry Nocciolata Grilled Sandwich We were on our anniversary date last weekend when I saw something at Marshall’s that my sister-in-law Sandi had been wanting. I texted her a picture. “Look! Only 25 bucks!” All she said was, “please tell me you’re not shopping at Marshall’s for your date.”

 Oh yes. Yes we were. Lest you truly think the romance is dead, just know that the first part of our date was going to play tennis, so we were all sweaty and gym-clothes-y when we arrived at the store. After that we went to In-n-Out and then hit up Barnes and Noble, snaggy hair and all. I’m telling you guys, marriage just gets better with time. There is honestly no one else I would rather suck at tennis with and read cookbooks at the bookstore next to.

 Speaking of Aristotle’s cute little quote, I’d say it applies to this Raspberry Nocciolata Grilled Sandwich quite nicely. You will notice that this is a no-brainer recipe. I didn’t even deign to suggest how many tablespoons of raspberry jelly to put on your sandwich. It’s a chocolate sandwich, it’s not good for you so you shouldn’t be counting calories, and if you don’t know how to spread jelly on bread then boy have we got a ways to go.

 Have you guys heard of Nocciolata? No-chee-oh-lata. They sent me a free jar to check out, and it is awesome. It’s a Nutella alternative. Most of the brands I’ve tried are not even close, in my opinion, but Nocciolata tastes exactly like Nutella to me. And it’s completely organic, kosher, and lots of other healthy stuff, so if you’re into that, then I would most definitely check it out.

 It’s an Italian brand, but they’ve been making a name for themselves in the US. I even saw it at Costco the other day:

I will be buying that entire pack from Costco and making a thousand of these grilled sandwiches with it. A thousand!!! I could seriously eat this every day.

I was given a free jar of Nocciolata  to review, but all opinions are my own, of course!

Raspberry Nocciolata Grilled Sandwiches


  • sourdough bread, sliced
  • Nocciolata, or other high-quality hazelnut spread
  • raspberry preserves
  • butter, softened


  1. Spread Nocciolata on one slice of bread and raspberry preserves on the other slice.
  2. Sandwich them together. Don't squish it!
  3. Spread butter on the top half of the sandwich.
  4. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the sandwich, butter side down.
  5. Spread butter on the other side once it's in the skillet.
  6. Let it grill for 3-5 minutes. Keep an eye on it since the Nocciolata has a tendency to burn.
  7. Flip when it is golden brown and cook on the other side for 2-3 minutes. Eat hot!


Any artisan bread would work with this recipe. Next I want to try ciabatta!

    I would make a big platter of grilled pineapple topped with Nocciolata. If you haven’t tried it, do so at the earliest convenience. Yum!

    Well happy anniversary to you and Eric my friend! And to me, your date night sounds just about perfect. I love those kind of dates so much more than the spend-2-hours-getting-ready fancy date. It’s all about being casual and yourselves!

    I’m also oddly curious to know what your SIL wanted at Marshall’s for $25. My guess is some kind of cooking gadget?

    Now you know I’m going to love this sandwich!

      Thanks Natalie! It’s so true. sweat pants date nights trump uncomfortable high heels date nights any day.

      It was one of those big tin bucket-y things that you put ice and soda cans in at a party. Is there a name for these that I don’t know???

    I would make fluffernutters for my youngest, she adores the marshmallow and peanut butter combo. Add chocolate and she just might explode with happiness!

    I have done Fluffernutters but I can only dream about the hazelnutfluffers. Especially grilled.
    That would be tricky. And a variety of artesian breads that I am so into now just ramps it up.
    I’m new to this site but have already found many interesting items.

    Umm, I would absolutely make this of course, only I would throw it on the panini press.

    And your husband washes dishes?! That is off-the-charts romance. I grated my hand on the lemon zester today, so there’s a slim chance that I’ll get out of washing dishes tonight. I’m not counting on it though. ;)

    My husband and I spend a lot of date nights at places like Marshall’s and Barnes & Nobles too. You have great taste!! Happy anniversary!

    Happy Anniversary and this hazelnut spread looks so amazing! I have finally fallen in love with hazelnut besides just Nutella. I would probably make nocciolata swirled banana bread because I love chocolate and bananas. Or maybe noccioata and strawberry homemade poptarts. So excited to try!

    Peter and I are going to Barnes and Noble for our date tonight too. But no tennis- that’s way too much work.
    I would probably just hide all that hazelnut deliciousness away from my children and eat it all with a spoon while reading in bed. I don’t even know what could be better than that.

    First of all, Happy Anniversary! We just celebrated our 7 years together several months ago, and like you said, marriage just keeps on getting better and better. I wish Tim would do the dishes but I’ve never had to do the laundry (he’s very.very particular when it comes to washing and folding clothes) so I guess I shouldn’t complain. I’ve never heard of nocciolata but it sounds heavenly!

    If they sell it at Costco it must be good! I’d make some homemade ciabatta to spread this on…or maybe even go to all the work of homemade croissants!

    Dawww, Karen–this post!! I love it so much, you two are the cutest in the business. I love that he’s willing to clean up your dishes, too (only a food blogger knows how many dishes need to be washed after a day-long stint in the kitchen!).     What would I make with this? Well…..I think that I would make a big heaping spoonful of it straight to my mouth! Yep, that sounds about right. That is, if I can beat my husband to it. I often find that the jar of fudge sauce in the fridge has disappeared little by little when I go to use it for something and I’m guessing this would probably be about the same….

    Happy anniversary, Karen! That sounds just like me ‘n Tony. Marriage is all about being comfortable enough to look disgusting with the one you love. It’d be even better if we were munching our way through these sammiches – for gawd’s sake, woman, you’re killing me. The crisp on the bread is PERFECT and I’m loving the bread to filling ratio. In fact, it might need a bit MORE Nocciolata ;)

    One of the great culinary discoveries of my life was when I found out that Europeans put chocolate on their bread! I want to spread some of this Nocciolata on some great bread right now :)

    We always used Nutella for our s’mores when camping. You still have the fun of roasting marshmallows. It’s an amazing flavor combo.
